"Like Jesus we belong to the world living not for ourselves but for others. The joy of the Lord is our strength."

2005-03-19 - Support Terry!! Wear a Green ribbon!!
The term “euthanasia” was coined by a political party. Do you know which one? If images of swastikas are dancing through your head you would be correct. The Nazis called the murder of Jews euthanasia. They were starved to death, shot, tortured and poisoned to death.
There is a scary parallel between what is going on in the Terry case and the gas used on the Jews in WWII. The gas was actually being developed before the war broke out to “take care” of mentally handicapped people in asylums. They were going to use it to kill them off just like they are using starvation to kill Terry off. How sick of a parallel is that?
We are a barbaric society when we stand up for murderers like Michael Schivo. America has taken a freighting turn towards an obsession with death that is just sick. I’m not the only one who says so. Listen to Michael Medved some time. It’s disturbing what he comes up with that is proof of our morbid view point. He had this to say about Terry’s condition. I also liked this story by Andrew McCarthy too.
If Terry dies then who will be next? She is brain damaged. My brother was born brain damaged. He is now autistic and he is legally mentally retarded. Are you going to come after him because he will never be a fully functional member of society? What about all of our soldiers coming back severely handicapped from the war on Terrorism? Are we going to go after them next? Will Walter Reid become a large vet’s office to “lay down” our loved but damaged family members? Don’t forget they are not criminals so they should by no means go out of this world easily. They don’t deserve such humane treatment (sarcasm). We should make it as long lasting and as cruel as possible. Why don’t we make starvation the standard norm for these cases? Let’s not even test any of them to see if they can swallow and oh what the hey let’s not even allow them to be fed by mouth to see if they can because then they would live or choke to death and wouldn’t be tortured to death. You and I both know that is just wrong. You must arrest any one trying to help them or at least call them criminals if you can’t arrest them – to include your own president (sarcasm on my part but not on some people’s part).
My dog with medical problems was put to sleep in a much more humane manner. There are murderers on death row that get legal representation and receive a much less messy and cruel death than this innocent is getting.
My father in law made a very good point:
“It was in the 90's when I first heard the term "culture of death". Mother Teresa described the USA that way when she spoke at the national Prayer breakfast. President Clinton was not pleased.
The culture of death has gripped us in its deceptive clutches. Today in Florida the government says it is ok for a husband to kill his wife by starving her to death. With the position that it is ok to remove food and water to someone who can't do this for themselves we have now given the legal ok to any parent of any baby to starve that child to death. After all the baby is given the freedom of choice to feed herself or starve to death. The government allows the citizens of the USA to be starved to death while spending its time talking about millionaire baseball players using drugs. We need better representation in Washington. We need people to stand for life. We need to transform the culture to a culture of life. Let us defend those who have the right to life.
David”
Oh and David, don’t forget that they were available to parade around the sins of famous baseball players but they are conveniently on spring recess now that, “Congressional leaders announced a compromise between Senate and House Republicans that would allow the brain-damaged woman's case to be reviewed by federal courts that could restore her feeding tube…” You know our congress just has to have that vacation of theirs. The senate has given them permission to convene but it’s just like when you want to call in sick if you see work calling then you ignore it. They were just talking about the baseball players Thursday. How far could they have really gone in less than a day?
She is starving to death as I type. There are no words in existence to explain my level of disgust. I have gone between angry, terribly depressed and utter revolt at the reactions that people have had towards this case. I have also seen a good number of people come together to stand up for the greater good which is becoming a rare thing in my idea of what the “greater good” actually is.
The thing that gets me to the core and hurts the very most is when people don’t care either way. I can’t even begin to understand how something like this couldn’t affect you. How can you hear a news story like this and not want to do all that you can to help? I can’t even fathom living in a world where I didn’t care about what happens to other people like that. That isn’t just a feeling to me it is the meaning of life; to live to care for others and to see that they are safe and that they get what they need to survive. Do you really think I would have joined the military if I wasn’t like that? The thing is though that there are so many people in the military who honestly don’t care one way or another. Some people in my shop don’t care. They don’t care about news, politics or major catastrophes like the recent Tsunami or about Terry. It just makes me want to scream when I hear one of them come up with a reason not to care. It’s so horrible. I feel like I’m helpless because I can’t make them change their minds. To me it would be like watching some one take a match, light it and drop it on my floor but all I can do is run away and watch my house burn down. It seriously shakes me up that much. I feel like God is being cruel for not giving them a conscience like every one else in the world has but then I realize I’m being to harsh because so many people think the same way they do. I want to say some thing terribly mean and hurtful but find that some how I can gather up enough disdain to keep quiet (which might be in part due to images of LOR dancing in the front of my mind).
Why are some people born so greedy that they can’t even see the sins that linger in their own hands? Just because some thing doesn’t effect you or is going to make your life better does not mean that you are right to ignore it or put some one else down to get what you want. Life is not all about you! Get it right and stand up for the ones who have no voice to speak for themselves!
Have you ever seen the commercial on T.V. where they sing “Amazing Grace” while showing photographs of starving children that need food and water to live? If you are a “channel flipper” then I suggest you try sitting through that whole commercial, really study the images and the words, let it all seep in and see if you don’t feel guilty or sad by the end of that 30 seconds. If you don’t feel anything by watching it then you need to examine your life and see what it is that you are doing wrong because somewhere along the line you misplaced your heart and you need to retrieve it.
I urge you all to pray for Terry, wear green ribbons in support of Terry’s life and to write your plea to the following Senators:
